Dr. Fernanda Barona embodies the heart and soul of periodontics, dedicating her career to enhancing the quality of life through healthy smiles. For Dr. Barona, periodontics is not just a medical specialty; it’s the cornerstone of dental wellness, where the journey towards both aesthetic beauty and functional health begins. Growing up in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in a family deeply rooted in dentistry, Dr. Barona was drawn to the profession’s ability to positively affect lives. Inspired by her parents and sister, she pursued her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at UCSG – Catholic University of Guayaquil. Her passion for periodontics led her to the University of British Columbia in Canada, where she completed her Master of Science in Craniofacial Science and Diploma in Periodontics.
Through a challenging three-year residency, Dr. Barona harnessed advanced knowledge and skills in periodontal disease management, bone and gum reconstructions and dental implant placement. Her approach is characterized by a deep commitment to personalized care, listening intently to patient stories and tailoring treatments to meet each individual’s unique needs and desires.
As a board-certified periodontist in Canada, Dr. Barona is an active participant in several professional organizations and dedicates herself to continuous learning through ongoing education. This commitment ensures she stays at the cutting edge of periodontal care, offering the most innovative and effective treatments available.
Beyond her clinical excellence, Dr. Barona is a firm believer in giving back, mentoring new graduates, and volunteering in dental healthcare for rural communities. Her personal life is filled with joy and adventure, sharing memorable moments with her husband, Dr. Jason Zimmerman, and their sons, Benjamin and Ethan.
